A former NFL player claimed someone stole his AFC Championship ring on a Sun Country Airlines flight in 2013, then allegedly made a nearly $5,000 insurance claim. But according to investigators, Brent Griffith had the ring the entire time. Griffith, a Little Falls graduate and former Minnesota-Duluth standout who played one year with the Buffalo Bills when the team won the 1990 AFC Championship, has been charged with one count of felony insurance fraud. North Star Mutual Insurance Company filed a complaint with the state Commerce Fraud Bureau in July of 2014, after Griffith’s ex-wife, Mary Griffith, called the company to inform them he lied about the ring being stolen and “continued to wear it even though he claimed it had been stolen.”
