California Woman Sentenced For Fatal Hit-And-Run And Insurance Fraud

A 24-year-old Santa Ana woman was sentenced to three years in prison on Monday for fleeing the scene after fatally hitting a pedestrian and then falsely reporting to her insurance company that her vehicle had been vandalized. Belen Guadalupe Sicairos pleaded guilty on Monday in Orange County Superior Court to felony hit-and-run causing death, and felony insurance fraud, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. Sicairos was driving westbound on First Street in Santa Ana at about 2 a.m. on Nov. 29, 2015 when she struck Jorge Luis Lopez-Lobato, 35, as he was crossing the street, authorities said. Sicairos drove off without stopping to help Lopez-Lobato, who died at the scene.
