Floridian Fatally Struck By Garbage Truck While Walking His Dog

A 73-year-old man was killed when a garbage truck backed up and struck him while he was walking his dog Wednesday morning in Orange County. Florida Highway Patrol officials said James Lear was struck around 7 a.m. in the area of Prestbury Drive and Kelsall Drive. Troopers said the garbage truck was backing up on Prestbury Drive when it struck and ran over Lear and his dog. Lear was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The dog is being treated at a veterinarian’s office, troopers said. The crash in under investigation and troopers said charges are pending.
