Cop Claims His Vehicle Was Stolen After Fleeing Scene Of Accident

An off-duty Bern Township police officer who fled the scene of a three-vehicle crash last month and concocted a story that a thief was driving the hit-and-run vehicle faces insurance fraud and other criminal charges, Berks County detectives announced Thursday. Douglass M. Brown, 41, who also is a newly elected supervisor in South Heidelberg Township, turned himself in for arraignment Thursday morning at the office of District Judge Ann L. Young in South Heidelberg, accompanied by his attorney.
