Wednesday, March 7th, 2018 Fraud Workers' Compensation

A former Ventura hospital worker was ordered Thursday to pay more than $26,000 in restitution and sentenced to 60 days in jail for workers’ compensation insurance fraud. Michelle Cordero, 50, of Nocona, Texas, pleaded guilty to one felony count of insurance fraud in January, according to court records. She was also sentenced to five years of supervised probation. Authorities said Cordero filed a workers’ compensation claim in July 2015 for a right shoulder injury she said happened while moving a shelf while working at Community Memorial Hospital. In her report, Cordero also denied having prior shoulder injuries and went to only one doctor.
