Scarlett Hamilton sifted through the medicine cabinet in her first-floor condominium Monday morning, as water dripped from the ceiling and gathered in puddles around her feet. Soot and ashes covered nearly all of her condo, from the kitchen stove to the living room futon. With no electricity and no air conditioning, Hamilton, who suffers from stage-four melanoma, stood in the kitchen, still dazed from the fire that destroyed her unit and 17 others Sunday morning. “It was intense, definitely intense,” Hamilton said as she recalled being woken up just after 3 a.m. Sunday by firefighters banging on her door.
