Hurricane Lane could come dangerously close to the Hawaiian Islands late this week, and while impacts such as strong winds, heavy rain and battering surf are likely to occur, the severity of those threats is still uncertain. A hurricane watch may be required for parts of the Hawaiian Islands Tuesday, according to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center. The center of Lane is about 500 miles southeast of the Big Islands Kona coast or more than 600 miles southeast of Honolulu, Hawaii, moving generally west. Lane remains a strong Category 4 hurricane with 150 mph winds.
