Insured losses from the Carr and Mendocino Complex fires have reached $845 million, California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones reported Thursday, warning that these numbers the first reported from the fires that started in July are expected to climb as more claims are filed. The Carr Fire in Shasta and Trinity counties was the more destructive of the two. It destroyed 850 homes and damaged about 5,000, resulting in $769 million in residential claims. The Mendocino fires, which included Lake and Colusa counties, destroyed 58 homes and damaged nearly 3,000 more, causing $51.5 million in residential claims.
