Frozen And Burst Pipes: Expect Many Insurance Claims After Historic Cold In Texas

Historic winter weather has frozen much of Texas, leading to surreal scenes in regions of the state that are known for being hot and dry.

In Dallas, where February high temperatures are usually near 60 degrees, Thomas Black posted an image to social media of icicles hanging off a ceiling fan in the hallway of an apartment building.

Black came across the ‘almost an apocalyptic looking scene’ early Monday morning. In a cold hallway, a pipe had apparently burst and the leaking water had frozen on the fan.

In recent days, Black has witnessed even more surreal sights: A frozen pool, iced-over hallways and water gushing from buildings.

"Pipes are busting everywhere,’ said Black, whose apartment has lost water but mostly kept its power.
