— The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has released a hazard map of the capital in district blocks that is graded by the level of danger during earthquakes based on the characteristics of each area. The map was created on the assumption that all of Tokyo was struck by a large quake measuring the maximum of 7 on the Japanese scale. Of 5,133 district blocks in the capital, 84 have been designated as the most dangerous zones at level five. Over 60 percent of those areas are located in Adachi, Arakawa and Sumida wards. Level four districts make up most of the capital’s old residential areas as well as parts of Ota, Shinagawa, Suginami and Nakano wards, while the Tama area, in the western part of Tokyo, was graded at level three or less.
