Absence Mgmt Keeping Workers At Work
Monday, May 1st, 2000 Workers' CompensationEmployers are just beginning to discover how much absenteeism really hurts their operations. The best studies available suggest U.S. employers average five lost work days per year per employee, for a national total of 400 million lost work days a year. Those absences cost employers hundreds of billions of dollars a year in lost productivity. Today, absence management is still in its infancy. In the future, as the baby boomers age and the number with chronic health problems grows, employers that need experienced employees to get the job done will have to give the subject a great deal more thought. Many will be turning to insurers, third-party administrators and consultants for advice.
