The March 25 deadline, set by the Alabama Department of Insurance for insurers to settle Hurricane Ivan-related claims or report to the department why they have not been settled has passed and insurers are now faced with a 30 day deadline to pay the claims. If the insurers do not pay the claims by the deadline, they will fact up to $1,000 per violation and risk suspension of their insurance licenses. Before the deadline passed, it was estimated that there were about 7000 claims that had not been settled.
