Apartment Carport Fire Destroys 17 Vehicles, Displaces 40 Residents

A large apartment fire sent three people to the hospital and evacuated nearly 20 units. Fire crews were called to the fire near 825 E. 600 S. at about 4:30 a.m. Officials said the fire started in a car port storage room. Fortunately, actual flames did not impact the nearby apartments. However some of the units suffered heat-related damage like busted windows and eaves that melted due to the intense heat. Most of those apartments also have smoke and water damage. Firefighters had to rescue some residents from their balconies. Of the three people injured, two suffered burns while running out of their apartment.
