Rivers and streams swollen by days of torrential rainfall across the Northeast overflowed their banks Wednesday and forced more than 200,000 people from their homes from Maryland to New York and at least 12 people have been killed.
The flooding was among the worst in memory in parts of Pennsylvania and Upstate New York, and authorities worried that some rivers would not crest until sometime today. The governor of Pennsylvania has already predicted that damage from the floods will top $100 million in that state alone.
