Auto Insurers Pursue Firestone
Wednesday, August 15th, 2001 Auto SubrogationThe country‘s two biggest auto insurers, Allstate Insurance Co. and State Farm Insurance Co., are trying to recoup money the insurers paid out in claims involving Ford Explorers equipped with Firestone tires. The two insurers have made claims against Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. and Ford Motor Co. for costs associated with auto insurance claim payouts. Neither company will reveal the amount of money involved, but both say the process has so far been smooth with no lawsuits on the horizon. Allstate first began the process, known as subrogation, in October 2000, and believes it‘s too early to call the attempt a success, according to spokesperson Emily Daly. "The only difference here is that our subrogation touches on an issue that‘s attracted national attention."
