Catastrophe Declared As Cyclone Makes Landfall In Australia
Tuesday, March 28th, 2017 Catastrophe PropertyThe Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has declared a catastrophe as Tropical Cyclone Debbie makes landfall between Bowen and Airlie Beach in North Queensland. Whilst it is still too early to gauge the full extent of the damage the category 4 storm could wreak on the region, Rob Whelan, CEO of the ICA, said insurers are expecting claims in the thousands.
“Insurers are already taking calls from policyholders, and many have teams standing by to enter the impact zone, assess claims and deliver assistance to their customers,” Whelan said.
