Thursday, March 27th, 2003 — The cost of this month‘s blizzard could top $25 million, making it the most expensive snowstorm in Colorado history, said Carol Walker, an insurance industry representative. The roofs of homes, businesses, carports and sheds collapsed, and vehicles slid into costly collisions.
Wet snow that added weight to everything from branches to power lines caused most of the damage, said Walker, executive director of the Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association.
"We don‘t get these expensive winter storms. We‘re not used to this wet, heavy snow," she said.
The storm is sure to break the record set in 1997 when a furious blizzard dumped almost two feet of snow in Denver, causing $10 million in insured damage, Walker said.
