Rising waters from Hurricane Ike’s push through the Gulf of Mexico have authorities in Hancock County filling sandbags and others in Harrison and Jackson counties opening shelters. Though Ike’s projected path still has the Texas coast in sight for a weekend landfall, its effects are being felt here as streets and yards flood in the three southernmost counties and piers in areas of Harrison and Hancock counties are now under water.
