The Virginia Senate endorsed medical malpractice reform legislation yesterday that is seen as a compromise between the state’s lawyers and physicians. The legislation does not limit damage awards, but is an attempt to ward off false claims by requiring a medical expert to certify the standards of care were violated before a suit can be filed.
