Damage Assessments Underway After Tornado Outbreak In Alabama

Severe storms came through Alabama on Wednesday, leaving a trail of splintered trees and damaged buildings.

Preliminary information indicates 18 tornadoes touched down in Alabama on St. Patrick’s Day.

There are no reports of serious injuries or deaths at this time, but there is extensive property damage in several areas of the state.

The National Weather Service said a preliminary storm survey of the damage near Pools Crossroads in Chilton County indicates an EF-2 tornado with peak winds of 130 mph touched down in the area.

The NWS also confirmed an EF-1 tornado with 110 mph winds touched down in Hale County in Moundville, where trees and power lines were toppled and several homes were damaged.
