Dennis Terrible, But No Ivan
Monday, July 11th, 2005 Catastrophe PropertyHurricane Dennis, on a path only 50 miles off the path taken by Hurricane Ivan last September, struck the U.S. mainland at 3:25 p.m. ET Sunday on Santa Rosa Island with winds gusting at 115 to 120 mph. The fourth named storm of the 2005 storm season then came inland, bringing several inches of rain, fierce winds and tornado warnings to parts of the Florida Panhandle, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. Hurricane Dennis weakened to a tropical storm by the end of Sunday, but it still carried a big punch to the southern states still recovering from the fierce 2004 storm season.
