Failure to use seat belts, impaired or aggressive drivers and distractions all play a part in the total fatal accident numbers each year. More than 100 people have died on Delaware roads every year since 1964. Over the past two decades the annual average is 125 killed. More than 100 people have died on Delaware roadways every year since 1964 and 2016 was no exception. "We would love to get to zero," said Jana Simpler, director of the state Office of Highway Safety. "And we are hopeful we will get there some day. But we are making some headway."
