Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023 Property

President Joe Biden has approved a major disaster declaration for Broward County, offering financial assistance to individuals and communities affected by the severe flooding that hit the area two weeks ago.

The declaration makes federal funds available to state and local governments, as well as homeowners who suffered damage to their properties during the storm.

The flooding, which occurred between April 12 and April 14, caused widespread damage to homes, businesses, and public infrastructure in the county.

According to estimates, over 1,000 homes were significantly damaged, with many residents forced to evacuate or face the risk of mold and other hazards.

In addition to providing assistance to homeowners, the FEMA funds will also be used to support emergency costs incurred by state and local governments, as well as some nonprofits. This includes repairs to public facilities such as schools and airports, as well as measures to mitigate the risk of future disasters.

The cost of the flooding has been estimated at over $100 million, with many businesses and renters also affected by the storm. .

"We’re grateful for the president’s swift action in approving the disaster declaration," said Gov. Ron DeSantis. "This will help us to begin the process of rebuilding and recovery, and ensure that our communities are better prepared for future disasters."
