Federal safety authorities are currently seeking information regarding a fatal crash and subsequent fire involving a Tesla Cybertruck, which resulted in the death of the vehicle’s driver. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that while they are gathering details from Tesla, they have not dispatched crash investigators or initiated a formal investigation at this time.

The incident, which took place in Baytown, Texas, marks the first reported fatality involving the recently launched Cybertruck, which debuted on November 30. Local reports indicate that the truck veered off the road and collided with a concrete culvert before catching fire.

The vehicle had previously been recalled twice in June for issues related to trim pieces and windshield wipers, and a total of four recalls have been issued since its release. The Texas Department of Public Safety and state troopers are also investigating the crash.
