Few areas in west enforce strict fire codes
Monday, November 5th, 2007 PropertyThe strict building standards that helped parts of Southern California survive last month’s devastating wildfires are not used throughout most of the fire-prone West, leaving other places vulnerable to similar onslaughts. "It’s still spotty," says James Schwab, a researcher with the American Planning Association, which has studied wildfire readiness. "We’re doing better, but we have a long way to go."
