A Columbus firefighter is recovering from multiple injuries after falling through a floor while battling a suspected arson Friday morning. The Columbus Fire and Bomb Investigations Unit responded to the blaze on the 1200 block of E. Gates St. at 3:05 a.m. A Columbus Police officer first reported the fire after spotting smoke during a patrol. The first fire fighter to enter the home fell into the basement through a hole on the first floor, according to Deputy Chief Bill Bishop. That fire fighter -- who did not want to be identified -- is being treated for back and rib injuries at Grant Medical Center.
