An explosion in a Pennsylvania neighborhood has left five people dead and three others injured, with three homes destroyed and a dozen more damaged by the blast.
The incident occurred in the city of Plum, just outside Pittsburgh. According to a statement released by Allegheny County on Sunday, the explosion tore through homes, followed by fire.
Emergency personnel arrived to find one house leveled, two houses completely consumed by flames, and another dozen homes with shattered windows from the sheer force of the blast. First responders found people trapped under the debris.
The aftermath revealed that four adults and one adolescent had lost their lives in the explosion. Officials said it was unclear who was home and if any visitors were in the area at the time, complicating efforts to identify the dead.
The Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s office has launched a thorough investigation into the origins of the explosion, working in close collaboration with officials from local, state, and federal levels.
