FL Storm Loss At $115 Million

Insured losses from Tropical Storm Gabrielle, which tore through Florida earlier this month, totaled $115 million, Insurance Services Office in Jersey City, N.J. said today. The losses involved, ISO said, were from wind, flooding, tornadoes, and tropical storm and restricted to Florida. There were 42,000 total claims, which included 32,000 personal, 4,000 commercial property and 4,000 auto, ISO reported. Jim Loftus, spokesperson for Florida’s Division of Emergency Management said the Sept. 14 event involved three days of rain as the storm hit from the southwest, ripped through the spine of the state and exited the northeast corner by Jacksonville.
