Gamma Weakens Into Tropical Depression

Monday, November 21st, 2005 Property

Tropical Storm Gamma weakened into a tropical depression Sunday after killing 12 people in the Central American countries of Honduras and Belize. According to the U.S. Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, Gamma, the 24th named storm of an already record-breaking Atlantic hurricane season, has been nearly stationary off the coast of northern Honduras. Maximum sustained winds decreased to 35 mph — below the threshold of 39 mph to be considered a tropical storm. Gamma’s forecast path over the next three days shifted eastward, indicating the Gamma’s center could move south of Jamaica by Wednesday.
