Georgia Bills Could Place New Regulations On Ridesharing Services

Thursday, February 12th, 2015 Legislation & Regulation Liability

Strict new state regulations on ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft may be coming down the pipeline. House Bill 190 would force most ridesharing drivers to more than double their current insurance standards. A separate bill, HB 224, would require them to be certified by a local government and submit to background checks and regular car inspections. "The proposed bills fail to recognize the new safety standard Uber has set in the industry and would make Georgia the most difficult state for its residents to access safe rides and economic opportunity through the Uber platform," said Uber spokesman Taylor Bennett in a statement.
