Monday, October 23rd, 2006 — According to Hawaii’s director of civil defense, at least 1,173 homes were damaged from Sunday’s earthquake. President Bush has declared it a major disaster, and ordered federal aid to help state and local recovery efforts. Preliminary estimates from the earthquake suggest $73 million in damage.
