Hundreds Of Accidents Reported On Treacherous Chicago Roads

Hundreds of traffic crashes, at least three of them fatal, were reported Wednesday morning as a surprise bout of freezing rain paralyzed much of the Chicago area. National Weather Service meteorologist Andrew Krein said the forecast had called for light snow, but the cloud layer proved too shallow to produce anything but drizzle. That froze on some roads, producing scenes of chaos during the morning rush hour. Michael Pogwizd said he was fueling up at a Hickory Hills gas station about 6 a.m. when a car pulling into the lot slid uncontrollably into the pump, knocking it onto Pogwizd’s Chevrolet Malibu.
