On Saturday, a total of six people were injured and two of them suffered life-threatening injuries after an unexpected collapse of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system that fell into a resort pool in Aurora, according to officials.

As per the Aurora Fire Rescue (AFR) news release, several people called the agency about the collapse, which prompted the dispatch of AFR units to the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center near Denver International Airport at approximately 9:50 a.m. local time.

AFR spokeswoman, Sherri-Jo Stowell, said that the HVAC system that fell on the pool was mounted on the ceiling and covered nearly the entire area of the pool. Officials estimated that around 50 to 100 people were in the pool when the incident occurred.

Stowell said that some of the victims suffered penetrating wounds and cuts others had crushing injures. Luckily, eight firefighters were conducting training exercises on the resort property, leading to a quick response to the incident, as authorities noted in the release.

Responders transported all six victims to local hospitals. Although the AFR did not identify the victims, they revealed that two people had life-threatening injuries.

The investigation into the cause of the HVAC system’s collapse is ongoing, and the resort has not released any official statement regarding the incident.
