Monday, January 7th, 2008 — Many residents who fled nearly 300 homes damaged by a canal rupture were able to return, but had to contend with as much as 8 feet of water in places and sheets of ice over yards and streets. More people were expected to return home Monday as flood waters recede in this northern Nevada desert town hard-hit by a West Coast storm system that piled up to 11 feet of snow in the Sierra Nevada mountains and toppled nearly 500 miles of power lines in California.
