Internal collapse in Maplewood, N.J. restaurant kills 1, injures 1

One construction worker was killed and another hospitalized in serious condition after masonry work collapsed inside a downtown Maplewood restaurant this morning, authorities said. The collapse was from the first floor into the basement, Maplewood Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Callaghan said. The three workers in Coda Kitchen & Bar at the time of the 9:08 a.m. collapse were in the process of installing a staircase, authorities said. "He was trapped under a good amount of rubble," Callaghan said. "He was D.O.A."
