U.S. property/casualty insurers paid a record $27.3 billion dollars for insured property losses to both homeowners and businesses for the 22 catastrophic events that occurred last year. Over 80 percent of the insured losses were from the 5 hurricanes that struck the Atlantic and Gulf coasts in the southeastern United States.
