U.S. District Judge L.T. Senter Jr. has hundreds of lawsuits pending from Hurricane Katrina. To ease this burden, he recently ordered several dozen plaintiffs and their insurers to mediate their differences or face appropriate sanctions. The parties were able to resolve their differences and settle their cases in seven of the first 17 cases. As a result of their success, Judge Senter ordered mediation for 57 more cases.
