Lightning Blamed For Apartment Building Fire In Maryland

A lightning strike started a two-alarm fire that heavily damaged a Woodbridge Apartments building along Robinwood Drive near Hagerstown Tuesday night, displacing 74 residents from 37 units. Lightning struck the roof of the three-story building at 11565 Robinwood Drive shortly after 8 p.m., and immediately ignited the top section of the building, including the attic, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office. Although the building was equipped with water sprinklers, the fire started above them, the fire marshal’s office said.
