Louisiana State Police made an exceedingly easy arrest early Sunday morning in Baton Rouge, when a man suspected of being drunk drove himself over to the police troop’s office. The driver, 31-year-old Patrick W. Ruffner of Gonzales, called state police at about 3 a.m. to report he had been in a hit-and-run crash on I-10 near Siegen Lane in Baton Rouge, police said. The sergeant who spoke with him told him to come to the Troop to fill out a crash report.
When Ruffner arrived 45 minutes later, he met a trooper in the parking lot. The trooper suspected Ruffner had been drinking and he performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Police said he admitted that he had been drinking before the accident.
