Members feel higher power protected them after church collapse

Friday, July 8th, 2011 Property

City building inspectors have been out Thursday afternoon after two collapses at the sanctuary of Cain-Grant AME Church and now a congregation of about 200 is trying to see what they’ll do next. As the bricks fell, church members watched many memories go with it. "It’s heart breaking to tell other members. We’ve been here since the 50s, it’s hard to loose something, even though it’s just a building," said Norma Lapsley. The Cain-Grant AME church moved into the building more than five decades ago. The building was built in the mid 1930s and the pastor’s wife tells KCTV5’s Eric Chaloux there had been no recent problems.
