Tuesday, September 25th, 2001 — The National Association of Insurance Commissioners has set Oct. 22-24 for a summit to delve into insurance issues arising from the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States.
The summit will take place at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. It is expected to draw regulators, industry representatives, congressional members and key insurance department staff. The agenda will be finalized in the next few weeks, the NAIC said.
NAIC President and Kansas Insurance Commissioner Kathleen Sebelius acknowledged that "the recovery and rebuilding process will be difficult," requiring a partnership among insurers and all financial services regulators.
Ms. Sebelius said that the summit will provide an opportunity for all concerned to focus their energies on helping the U.S. recover from the catastrophe.
