A Nebraska man and woman face felony charges for allegedly defrauding Geico out of $78,750 by falsely claiming their camper had been stolen. In July 2022, the couple, who were dating at the time, filed a claim with Geico, reporting the theft of their camper and listing $15,000 worth of possessions supposedly in the vehicle. However, a tip received by the Nebraska Department of Insurance a year later led to an investigation, uncovering that the camper had not been stolen. Authorities found the camper on a property in Oklahoma, where it had been given to settle a debt.
As a result of the claim, Geico paid out nearly $80,000, which the couple allegedly split. Both individuals are now facing charges of insurance fraud and theft. One has posted bail, while the other remains in custody with a court date scheduled in early October.
