A licensed insurance agent from Battleboro, North Carolina, has been arrested and charged with 74 felonies, including 25 counts of forgery, 25 counts of identity theft, and 22 counts of obtaining property by false pretense. The offenses reportedly occurred between August and October 2022.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey praised the diligent work of the N.C. Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division in uncovering the scheme. The agent was released on a $100,000 secured bond and a $10,000 unsecured bond and is scheduled to appear in Nash County District Court.
Commissioner Causey emphasized the importance of protecting sensitive information to prevent such crimes and reiterated the department’s commitment to prosecuting significant fraud cases in the state. This case serves as a reminder for consumers to remain vigilant about safeguarding their personal information.
