Push by Menendez to Reform Flood Insurance Claims Process

Thursday, September 11th, 2014 Legislation & Regulation Property

Following up on concerns that were raised over the flood insurance claims process at a hearing this summer, U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez today pushed the federal government to implement a series of reforms to the program. Menendez (D-N.J.) called on the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency to increase penalties for insurance companies that underpay claims, to reopen nearly 300 Hurricane Sandy-related claims that were dismissed and to establish the office of a flood insurance advocate to help policyholders through the claims process.
