In a 5-4 decision, the Mississippi Supreme Court ruled that rental car companies are not liable for accidents which occur after a vehicle is rented to an individual who presents a driver’s license which appears to be legal. The fact that a driver has lied about haing a valid license can used as a defense to damage lawsuits.
