The last time an October hurricane made landfall was in 2005 when Hurricane Wilma struck Florida, according to modeler Risk Management Solutions (RMS). That storm caused about $11.3 billion in insured loss, making it the fourth costliest in history. In 1995 an October storm, Hurricane Opal, caused nearly $3 billion in losses after wreaking havoc in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.
