When the Minnesota Department of Transportation closes roads on blustery days, the ice is usually above the pavement. On Wednesday icicles extended down from sheets of asphalt hanging over a deep pit eroded from under Minnesota Highway 22 south of St. Peter. The road was closed to traffic after runoff from rain and snow melt caused part of the highway to collapse into the newly created pit.
