Satellite Speeds Up Disaster Claims

Monday, March 12th, 2001 Property

When a natural disaster strikes, the response of insurance claims professionals can’t be quick enough for those who lose homes, possessions and businesses. A new weapon is being used to make sure that response is as speedy as possible--satellite technology. Hartford-based Travelers Insurance has announced satellite capability as an enhancement to its catastrophe response vehicles (which the company calls CAT Vans--see accompanying photo). These custom-built Winnebago vans, or "offices on wheels," allow claims professionals "to get into the heat of the action, wherever catastrophes may happen," said Ray Stone, second vice president, Travelers Catastrophe Response Services.
