School bus hits truck, slams into house

West Des Moines police said a school bus collided with a house Monday morning. Police were called to the house in the 500 block of 53rd Street at 7:41 a.m. "There was a big crash and it sounded like thunder hit the front of the house and the whole house shook and it kind of startled us," said Ancell. The truck was parked in the passenger side of the driveway and ti pushed the truck almost into the street." According to police, the West Des Moines School District bus was southbound on 53rd Street when it left the roadway on a curve, hit a mailbox, hit a truck parked in a driveway -- pushing it across the yard, hit the house at 503 53rd St. and then a tree.
