Snow collapses roofs, snarls traffic in the Northwest

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008 Auto Property

Wintery weather slowed the morning commute Monday in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. That followed an unexpectedly strong storm, which dumped at least a half-foot of snow in the Eugene area, the most it has seen in more than a decade. Traffic officials advised motorists not to drive if possible, saying that highways were coated with the thin, transparent, hard-to-see film of ice known as "black ice."
